I think this book could be a wonderful tool to use in classrooms that are struggling to integrate with their peers or for classrooms within communities struggling to integrate with each other。 All Are Welcomed here incorporates people from every race and nearly every continent。 And not even in a one and done style, but repetitively which further reminds the reader that there are many different types of people and that they are not going away。 We are here to stay。 Something that stuck out to me t I think this book could be a wonderful tool to use in classrooms that are struggling to integrate with their peers or for classrooms within communities struggling to integrate with each other。 All Are Welcomed here incorporates people from every race and nearly every continent。 And not even in a one and done style, but repetitively which further reminds the reader that there are many different types of people and that they are not going away。 We are here to stay。 Something that stuck out to me the most was the inclusion of a non-White teacher。 In Sciurba’s article, the statistic “teachers--80% of whom are White females” (Sciurba, 2020 pg。122) blew my mind but also resonated with me。 Thinking back, my first non-White teacher was in the sixth grade。 And I have moved quite a lot across various cities, states, and communities。 It warmed my heart to see POC representation in the classroom that went beyond a diverse student roster。 Another scene that stuck out to me was the lunchroom scene。 When it comes to racial diversity, food plays a big part。 And children can be mean especially about food。 There are far too many painful stories of BIPOC/POC children asking their parents to not make them home based food for lunch anymore due to bullying。 Seeing all the kids in All Are Welcome happily eating the different foods and not making fun of anyone, while unrealistically harmonious, does point to a direction we can all work towards。 Sciurba, K。 (2020)。 Depicting Hate: Picture Books and the Realities of White Supremacist Crime and Violence。 Teachers College Record: The Voice of Scholarship in Education, 122(8), 1–44。 https://doi。org/10。1177/0161468120122。。。 。。。more

This story shows a look into what a day in the life of students looks like。 It has good representations and shows how to be welcoming。 I loved the colorful illustrations and the message it gave to readers! The children's book "All Are Welcome" is one that should be in all classrooms and in the library of families。 It a beautifully written and illustrated story about the diversity in our world。 It discusses how no matter how you start your day, what you wear, or if you come from far away, etc。 you all are welcome here。 The illustrations are my favorite part! My favorite page is the last double page spread。 It is a dramatic fold out that has all of the students and their families included to truly show the reader the value of diversity。 This book will serve as a great window and mirror for our youngest of readers。 Children will be able to look through the story and identify food, games, or anything that they can relate to as a part of their culture。 They also will be able to see many traditions of other cultural groups and the different foods that exist in different parts of the world。 Here you can see the stories of many different children and this will help the readers a sense of validation, which is so crucial at a young age (Johnson & Koss, 2016)。 。。。more

“All Are Welcome,” by Alenandra Penfold is a children’s picture book that I found through a Wakelet link for books with themes of inclusion。 I listened to the read-aloud on YouTube that was read with upbeat, positive instrumental music in the background。 The reader had a joyful and welcoming tone in her voice, making it even more enjoyable to view the colorful pictures and hear the positive messages。 This book takes readers through a day in a classroom where all are welcome。 The first page show “All Are Welcome,” by Alenandra Penfold is a children’s picture book that I found through a Wakelet link for books with themes of inclusion。 I listened to the read-aloud on YouTube that was read with upbeat, positive instrumental music in the background。 The reader had a joyful and welcoming tone in her voice, making it even more enjoyable to view the colorful pictures and hear the positive messages。 This book takes readers through a day in a classroom where all are welcome。 The first page show students of diverse backgrounds gathering in a classroom that is filled with globes and maps。 Each page depicts a typical part of the school day, while the bright illustrations and welcoming words tell how all students belong and how we all learn about the world from each other and our differences。 This is a great first day of school read-aloud for PreK-3rd grade students, as it sets the stage for a sense of belonging and inclusion by all。 Students may see others in the pictures that dress, look like, and or represent themselves。 I would share this with the class then lead into a discussion as to how we are all unique and have special stories and backgrounds to share。 Then, I would introduce an “all about me” project or poster that students will create and then share with the class。 It could be a paper bag assignment where students bring in 5 items that represent themselves, or simply a collage of pictures that highlight their culture, traditions, hobbies, interests, etc。 。。。more
